Czech private health insurance pregnancy
This section is published 7.2024
Pregnancy is often covered by Czech private health insurance. But it is a slightly complex subject.
PVZP offers cover for pregnancy and childbirth.
But they require information about the coinidition before they will offer cover.
PVZP require medical reports (prefferably from a Czech doctor) but they can accept foreign medical reports. Prefferably in English.
The medical report should include information about the pregnancy and any expected complications.
It is much easier to apply for pregnancy cover once you are in CR. So one of the methods is to buy for example PVZP Plus and then "upgrade" the insurance once you are in CR, using Czech medical facilities to obtain the relevant medical reports.
If you are pregnant, we recommend taking out Comprehensive Foreigners' Health Insurance PLUS or EXCLUSIVE insurance of the Standard + Newborn type. For this type of insurance, the waiting period that would apply for the Standard type does not apply in the case of benefits for pregnancy and childbirth related medical care. In addition, this insurance also covers postnatal care for the newborn (from birth to a maximum of 3 months of age), i.e. medical care immediately following the birth without interrupting the continuity of hospitalisation.
If you are pregnant, we recommend that you arrange Foreigners’ Comprehensive Medical Insurance PLUS or the Standard + Newborn version of the EXCLUSIVE insurance. The waiting period that would apply in the case of the Standard version shall not apply for this type of insurance in the case of payment for healthcare provided in connection with pregnancy and birth. In addition, postnatal care for the newborn (from birth to a maximum of 3 months of age) is covered by this insurance, i.e. healthcare directly linked to childbirth without interruption of the period of hospitalisation.
- Make sure that the maternity hospital you have chosen has a contract with PVZP
- Minimal insurance period is 1 year (insurance can not be concluded only for the last 2-3 months before giving birth at a lower rate);
- Insurance contract can be concluded in any month of pregnancy, but still a period of 1 year is minimal;
- Insurance is concluded only from the current date (can not be concluded with the start in the past);
- A woman must undergo medical examinations at gynecologist and therapist, makes blood, urine tests, and also HIV testing;
All the insurance we provide meets Czech visa regulations.
